Pest Name: The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), (Diptera: Tephritidae )
The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), is one of the world's most important fruit pests. The species originated in Africa . In the Iran, this pest enter during 1973-1979.
Japanese medlar, plum, gold drop, peaches, nectarines, Feijoa, kiwi, figs, dates, persimmons, pears, pomegranates, apples and different varieties of citrus (orange, mandarin, Satsuma mandarin, Valencia, grapefruit and kumquat) have been recorded as hosts of the medfly,in mazandaran
The damage caused by larval feeding makes fruit unfit for human consumption the larvae feed upon the pulp of host fruits, sometimes tunneling through it and eventually reducing the whole to a juicy, inedible mass and fruit will rot.
